Archetyp was one of the largest and most trusted Western darknet markets until it was seized in June 2025 in Operation DEEP Sentinel, an international effort coordinated by Europol.

History
Launched in 2021, Archetyp grew steadily through the mid-2020s, absorbing users whenever larger markets were seized or closed. By 2024 it was frequently counted among the biggest English-speaking venues, second only to Abacus in many tracker rankings, and was considered one of the most trusted remaining markets due to strict vendor vetting.
Operation
Archetyp accepted Monero as its principal currency, required PGP for sensitive operations and enforced strict vendor rules that kept it largely free of scams. Its security-conscious approach made it a flagship example of the privacy-first generation of markets.
Downfall
In June 2025 Archetyp was taken down in Operation DEEP Sentinel, coordinated by Europol with German law enforcement and international partners. Servers were seized and the site was replaced by a law-enforcement notice. The takedown removed the largest surviving "trusted" Western market and sent its users rushing to remaining venues — most consequentially to Abacus, which exited with user funds weeks later.
Legacy
Archetyp's seizure, combined with Abacus's exit scam weeks later, ended the era of large Bitcoin- and Monero-friendly Western markets and accelerated consolidation toward TorZon, DrugHub, Nexus and DarkMatter. It is remembered as proof that even well-run, privacy-focused markets remain vulnerable to determined law-enforcement operations.
