Valhalla was one of the longest-running darknet markets, operating from 2013 as a Scandinavian-focused venue until Finnish Customs seized it in May 2019.

History

Valhalla began in 2013 under the name Silkkitie and served a predominantly Scandinavian and German-speaking clientele. It operated for more than six years, making it one of the oldest continuously running markets of its generation, outliving Silk Road and AlphaBay.

Operation

The market accepted Bitcoin and later Monero, and was known for relatively strict vendor standards and a steady, conservative approach that kept it off the top of takedown priority lists for years.

Downfall

In May 2019 Valhalla was seized by Finnish Customs in coordination with international partners, in the same period as the Wall Street Market takedown. Its servers were confiscated and the site was shut down.

Legacy

Valhalla demonstrated that a regional, low-profile market could operate for years while global giants rose and fell, and its seizure contributed to the 2019 wave that reshaped the European market landscape.
