Versus Market was one of the more active markets of the early 2020s, inheriting users after White House Market closed, before itself shutting down at the end of 2021.

History

Versus launched in 2020 during the pandemic boom and quickly gained listings across European and international vendors. It was briefly seen as a successor to Dream and Empire.

Operation

Versus supported both Bitcoin and Monero and ran a standard escrow system. Its closure came amid reports of operational problems and declining confidence; the market shut down without a formal exit-scam announcement.

Closure

By the end of 2021 the site was unreachable and administrators stopped communicating. Vendors and buyers dispersed to other venues, and the market was not rebuilt.

Legacy

Versus is remembered mainly as part of the churn that followed Empire's exit scam — a period when users migrated rapidly between mid-sized markets and many collapsed within a year. Its successor in spirit was Bohemia Market.
